[Abk. für Tagged Image File Format], ein von Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard und Aldus definiertes Dateiformat für Bitmap-Grafiken. Es ist weit verbreitet und bildet das wohl wichtigste Format für den Austausch von Bildern zwischen verschiedenen Plattformen. So wird das TIFF-Format von fast allen gängigen Anwendungsprogrammen unterstützt, die mit Bitmap-Grafiken arbeiten; Scanner legen die eingescannten Daten oft als TIFF-Datei ab. Solche Dateien erhalten die Namenserweiterung ».tiff«.
 
TIFF ist ein relativ kompliziertes Format mit einer Vielzahl an Speichermöglichkeiten. So können neben den eigentlichen Grafikdaten auch noch Metadaten wie Namen der benutzten Software, Scannertyp usw. aufgenommen werden, die im Dateikopf (Header) abgelegt werden. TIFF unterscheidet außerdem zwischen Schwarz-Weiß-, Grauwert- und Farbspeicherung. Von Bedeutung ist zudem die verlustfreie Kompression der Datei (nicht der Bildinhalte). Wegen der zahlreichen Optionen von TIFF kommt es bisweilen zu Problemen beim Austausch von TIFF-Dateien.
